I bought two of these on a good Amazon sale and they are a great deal for the money. I think it would be fine for a 3+ year old depending on the child. I am very paranoid with choking and still cut up grapes in quarters and have never even given my child a hotdog for this reason. My daughter does not put things in her mouth at 3 1/2 but if you have a child that does this it does have some small pieces. It is a very nice gift though and is a very large package so it looks like even more. I had to comandeer this item into my gift closet b/c my daughter wanted to open it and play she was instantly interested...
